It's hard to say whether Rajesh Roshan is now a spent force or not. Sometimes he wows us with creativity like "Haye Ram Yeh Kya Kar Dara", and other times he'll stun you with music which can't be called anything other than trash-ola. (Witness the torturous title track for Dev Anand's new "Love at Times Square".)

While the big name music directors were asleep, relative newcomers Sajid-Wajid swooped in and stole our hearts with this multi-version track from Kya Yehi Pyaar Hai.

Of all Nadeem-Shravan's zillion tunes this year, hits and bombs alike, this is the only one that will appeal to listeners for eons to come. What a shame for the self-declared kings of the Bollywood music world.

Very few people gave the mighty lyrics and simple tunes of Javed Akhtar/Anu Malik's "Badhaai Ho Badhaai" a fair chance. There's nothing flashy about this wonderful soundtrack, and it's a shame it was overlooked.

Why oh why did the best song from this soundtrack have to end up on the editing room floor? It might not have suited the characters or situations in the film, but that's never stopped Mumbai-ite directors before.

Most unlike Jatin-Lalit to do a track that's not in the R.D. Burman mold, but they did it so well here. Too bad the change was too late to resurrect their careers.

Pleasant to hear Lucky Ali return to playback a year after the chart-busting Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai.

If any music director broke into the big league in 2002, it was hit upon hit upon hit maker Himesh Reshammiya. Is ne inki "...zindagi mein aake …zindagi badal di."

It's naughty, yet nice. And Antra Mali really played up the "makhmali" stuff in the video.

This film album had so many great tracks. It's just too bad the flick couldn't do the songs full justice.

Adnan Sami's vocals in film songs almost always transate to chart-toppers these days. But this one, it's a romantic musical gem also.

Funky would be an understatement to describe this hard-edged travel tune. It's got oodles of attitude to spare!

While some folks wonder if this song has been pilfered from Arabic sources, others just can't help fall in love with the infectious beat.

So I guess this ends the argument of which version of "Mera Rang De…" was the best from the Bhagat Singh films. With A.R. Rahman as composer for Legend…, there should have never been any doubt.

The lyrics are a metaphoric dream. Those who argue that film song poetry is dead these days must not have heard this track.

I'm impressed that so many listeners appreciated this song that ironically celebrates love, while simultaneously wallowing in separation and sadness. 

Come on, admit it! The true star of Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai was this infectious track from the Queen of Karma, Asha Bhosle.

Aadesh Shrivastava and Vasundara Das contribute a truckful of panache to set this endeavour apart from the commonplace. Their voices are awesome!

Mahalaxmi had one solo track in an album filled with Lucky Ali tunes. And like the premise of the movie, the lady outshone the guy with her prowess.

Acknowledgement that it takes time to build relationships and for love to grow, Anu Malik's brother mesmerizes us with his brilliant music. Someone give the man a major film project and quick.
